Mitsubishi adds an IP55 variant to the FR-A800 series frequency inverters

Mitsubishi Electric has added dust- and splash-proof versions with an IP55 protection rating to its FR-A800 series. Specially designed for harsh conditions and tailored to the demands of pumps and fans, the drives are extremely robust and ideally suited for use in industrial and commercial building automation systems as well as in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

The new FR-A846 series equipped with an IP55 protection class represents Mitsubishi Electric's latest drive series with an output range from 400 watts to 160 kW. The drive's EMC filter is built in as standard and ensures full compliance with the EMC directive (EN 61800-3, 1st environment, category C2), while the DC reactor, also built in as standard, ensures full compliance with IEC 61000-3-12 for the reduction and limitation of harmonic currents. So that separate certification is not required. The FR-A846 also has a version with built-in main switch with locking option.

The IP55 series is suitable for operation of both standard asynchronous machines and IPM/SPM motor technology. USB connectivity ensures simple programming and parameterisation together with data logging functionality, while integration into the Mitsubishi Electric iQ Works programming environment is also offered. A built-in control panel together with graphical displays mean that the drives are intuitive to operate.

The quality of maximum speed and torque up to a maximum frequency of 400 Hz can be achieved using the Real Sensorless Vector Control. An overload capacity of 250 percent in the start-up phase will ensure reliable start-up behavior, especially under difficult working conditions. Minimum terminal cycle times of less than three milliseconds guarantee the highest possible response, while acceleration of less than 80 milliseconds help to ensure maximum performance and improved productivity.

Two overload scenarios guarantee optimized system planning, while three additional expansion slots extend the range of possible applications. Functional safety up to PLe/SIL3 is guaranteed in all situations, ranging from simple emergency stops to complex systems. The new range of inverters offers a total of eleven network options, including CC-Link, SSCNET, Profibus-DP, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, LonWorks and Modbus RTU, so that they can be used all over the world.

Like all Mitsubishi Electric inverters, the FR-A800 series also offers numerous protective, safety and overload features, high-quality heat-resistant capacitors, permanently lubricated and enclosed fans, as well as a protective coating according to IEC 60721-3-3. Integrated counters also indicate potential component wear. Ultimately, these are all factors that will help to reduce preventive maintenance costs

At the Nagoya Works plant in Japan, approximately 5,000 employees ensure the quality and reliability of Mitsubishi Electric inverters, ensuring their suitability for use in a wide range of industrial branches and sectors. More than 300 test and inspection procedures are carried out, enabling the company to guarantee maximum quality and reliability. More than 18,000,000 Mitsubishi Electric inverters have been sold worldwide.
