The NJ Robotics controller is capable of controlling all moving parts in the machine, including single axis, simple groups of axes and robot controls, with independent or synchronized movements.
Synchronization with multiple conveyors is fully programmable thanks to a powerful command specially developed for pick-and-place applications using Delta robots.
Packaging line
With the Symac platform for machine automation, the machine builder only needs to use one controller for all tasks. A good example is a packaging line in which one or more Delta robots are used to increase efficiency. The robot is instructed to pick up the product from a crate and places it on the packaging conveyor. With a single controller, the user can:
- easy and very fast exchange of information between robots, because everything is done from one controller,
- Up to 64 axes can be added freely when using NJ501-1500, which can be synchronized with the robot operations.
Delta robot motion control
Omron offers with its Sysmac platform a complete set of function blocks according to the IEC standard, with which a Delta robot can be programmed as easily as any other servo-controlled system. Using Sysmac Studio, you can activate a kinematic transformation with a simple instruction and then use a standard set of instructions to control the movement of the Delta robot. By simply programming the movement path of the tool center point (TCP) in a Cartesian coordinate system, the NJ controller automatically converts each point (x, y, z) of the interpolation of the path into three angular positions (ø1,ø2,ø3). Every time cycle, the angular positions are then sent as setpoints to the three servo drives that respectively control the motor of each arm.
On machines with integrated Delta robots from Omron, the following Sysmac NJ Robotics controllers can be used:
- NJ5-4500/4400 CPU: Up to 8 Delta robots with 64 rotary axes
- NJ5-4300 CPU: Up to 4 Delta robots with 32 rotary axes
- NJ5-4310 CPU: Designed to control a single Delta robot with 16 rotary axes.
To move a robot arm, an Accurax G5 servo system is used, which communicates with the controller via EtherCAT. All 230 VAC 400 W servo motors with brake are equipped with a 17 bit absolute encoder.
Types of Delta Robot
Currently Omron offers three types of Delta robots that differ in reach, payload and degree of protection. Each of these robots is available in a version with or without a rotation axis.
